Transitional album, preceded by the mammoth "Tusk" and followed by the trendy "Tango in the Night", born amidst rumors of a breakup and solo projects, "Mirage" is an excellent collection of songs, just like every album of the group from the white album onwards: Stevie Nicks pens here "Gipsy," one of her finest compositions ever, as well as the country ballad "That's Alright" and the more elaborate "Straight Back." Lindsey Buckingham enchants with the country-rock of "Can't go Back" and "Book of Love," surprises with the atypical "Empire State" and the delightful "Eyes of the World." Christine McVie confirms her verve with the rhythmic "Love in a Store" and the captivating "Hold Me," excels in the dreamy "Only Over You" and the melancholic "Wish You Were Here," in short, a great album, undeservedly underestimated because it is overshadowed by heavyweights like "Rumours" and "Tango in the Night."
