Here I am again talking about grindgore. This time I decided to review an album released in 2007 by Urethra Records, a split CD featuring the Czech Flatv5 and the Dutch Faeces Eruption, two one-man bands from the underground scene definitely heavily influenced by what was produced by Last Days of Humanity in their last period of activity (I'm particularly referring to the album "Putrefaction in Progress," the most violent ever produced by LDOH). This split contains 36 pieces of filthy grindgore condensed into thirty minutes; Flatv5 is one of the best gore/extreme expressions emerging from the Czech Republic (along with Destructive Explosion of Anal Garland), while Faeces Eruption you have started to familiarize with through other reviews of mine published on this site.
Let's start talking about the Flatv5.
The peculiarity of these tracks is that they are titled with a sequence of random numbers, these 20 songs turn out to be fast, short, intense, and quite brutal, recorded in two different recording sessions (one in summer and one in winter). These tracks are memorable for a marked obsessive and frenetic use of the drum machine, programmed on meat-grinder blast beat tempos, and without false self-indulgences or the use of great technical skill, they resolve in a matter of seconds, leaving the listener on the ground bleeding and in a comatose state. I would describe it as a high-adrenaline listening experience due to the truly acidic and brutal growl, the well-programmed, absurdly frenetic drum machine (like an ultrasonic tenderizer or a bone-breaking hammer, to give an idea), and the guitars played in a truly barbaric way, yet not neglecting some groovy elements that could also be labeled as groovy gore grind.
Keep in mind that Flatv5 is at their proper debut, and if the premises are these, they could truly become one of the pillars of the most rotten and extremist gore grind at the European level. Therefore, hoping that a new promise of this genre has been born, my rating tends to be very high, provided they do not contradict the good work done in this first endeavor and continue down this path. Absolutely passed. Rating 8.5
The Faeces Eruption are an old acquaintance of mine, I’ve listened to them in all ways (I own 4 splits and a compilation shared with other significant gore bands like Gross, Sarcophaga Carnaria, Sh*t on Your Face, Autophagia, and others.), and I consider them a great reality of the genre, perhaps one of the best, both in terms of songwriting and use of sounds, to tell the truth, always very mashed and fierce, which I absolutely do not disdain from a gore grind album played with gusto. Geeert is the sole member of the band, and the 16 songs proposed by F.E. are deafening, raw, fast, and Geeert's growl scream is something animalistic, like a werewolf harassing his microphone, repeatedly banging it against his head, and the more his head bleeds, the more he gargles and thrashes like he’s possessed, everything very gore indeed. There’s no groove in their songs, only raw and purposeless violence. So I’m sure this stuff will be appreciated by grindsters who are passionate about gore, hence I recommend buying this CD blind, without second thoughts. Rating 9
The beauty of this CD is that it can thrill both fans of the most extremist and old school gore grind, as well as those who want more modern and pounding versions of the genre. For this reason, I recommend it to all grindsters passionate about splatter and gore themes, also to understand the scope of a band like Flatv5. Hopefully, a new reality of Czech goregrind and not just a great promise. I think you will be satisfied.
