Formed in San Francisco in 1965, the Flamin' Groovies blended classic rock'n'roll, blues and 60s/70s British-invasion influences to create records that later fed proto-punk and power pop. Critically admired, they remained largely underappreciated commercially.

Founded 1965 in San Francisco. Early lineup featured Roy Loney (original singer); after Loney's departure Chris Wilson became a central vocalist and songwriter. Shake Some Action (1976) was produced by Dave Edmunds. Roy Loney died in 2019.

DeBaser reviews celebrate the Flamin' Groovies' landmark albums Flamingo, Teenage Head and Shake Some Action. Reviewers highlight the band's roots in classic rock'n'roll and their influence on proto-punk and power pop. Lineup changes (Roy Loney → Chris Wilson) mark a clear stylistic shift. Widely admired critically, the band remained underappreciated commercially.

For:Fans of classic rock, rock'n'roll, proto-punk and power pop; listeners who like Beatles- and Stones-influenced guitar pop with a punk edge.

If there were a "Rock Losers' World Championship", played by all those who have poured sentiment, energy, passion, and technique into the cause without, however, receiving any feedback from the "field" ("zzeeero tituli", as someone might say today), my unabashed support would certainly go to a national team from San Francisco named the Flamin' Groovies.
