Forget about the Navigli! In Milan, there are far more important Rivers, streaming.
Yes, it's a really terrible joke, but I had no idea how to start, literally zero, you know, staring at the blank notepad screen for like a year and five months, or so, so forgive me and let's move on.
The Rivers, indeed. And who might these Rivers be? You've figured out they're emerging young talents, I believe. Otherwise, WAKE UP!
The Rivers are emerging young talents!
And to be precise, you should go here to read a bit of their biography, which isn't even that long, and I already know I've piqued your timeless curiosity. Otherwise, you are really naughty!
Anyway, the Rivers start flowing just like everyone else: two bright lads (the good Pablo Quirici and Daniele Mattana) meet and start strumming away with their little guitars. From the first amusements in 2007, they arrive at recording these seven tracks that make up their first studio EP, which, coincidentally, is what I'm talking to you about.
"But why should I, a shrewd debaserian, bother to listen to these guys? They're not even on MTV!"
I'll tell you right now, my sparsely haired friend who listens to a lot of young music because you're young and proud of it, in a few simple points:
1- they play with Motorpsycho in one hand and Lecrevisse (may they rest in peace!) in the other;
2- at their best moments, they dirty their acoustic folk nature with measured yet intense psychedelic moments (see "Answer On A Clear Day" and "Serpica", the peaks of the EP);
3- the arrangements aren’t half bad, and in this age of brats who pick up a guitar and feel cool just doing the usual dissonant harmonic progression and shouting something sad on top, these guys give hope: talented, handsome & gifted (aummaumma)!
4- I sometimes catch myself humming the sunny choruses of "Yellow Paint" and "The Fool", and if a band manages to make you subconsciously whistle a chorus, it means they've hit the mark;
5- to top it all off, there’s the participation here and there of Gianluca Morelli, singer of the Emoglobe. He sings it very well, so in all this big deal there's a lot in it.
6- they're also indie-pendent, oh my!
Therefore: Click the twenty-five thousand links I've put here and listen to them a bit, darn it!
This EP is Small, it won’t take you long.
