Rating: I haven't even looked to see if there's another review on DeBa for this piece that I consider a small great masterpiece.
Besides the voice... Fish has an evocative timbre and it's truly incredible how he can shift from "intimate" tones to more "shouted" ones so naturally. Symbolic, indestructible, acrobatic, totally free from constraints. A Peter Gabriel with more power in his voice.
As I was saying, before I lost myself for a moment, beyond the voice... this song is breathtakingly beautiful. A slow, dramatic beginning, with Fish's voice (again...) binding the notes and the drama in a complete, indeed overwhelming, way. The keyboards creating the backdrop are just support, a delicate and important weave for the voice. The rhythms change, like life, like everything in the world, like the autumn leaves fall but return in spring. That's how the song progresses. An initial autumn that makes way for spring, with an underlying drama always present and an "elegant" and perfect prog opening that gives way to the central Scottish jig, a "divertissement" by a great author, followed by the return of the initial theme, slow and meditative... to be experienced by listening. Fish, you're great.
