Since the electrifying debut of Etruschi from Lakota in January, I decided it would be interesting to follow the releases from this young record label called Phonarchia.
Reaching the turn of Filarmonica Municipale LaCrisi, I find myself facing an album where perhaps for the first time there are some production flaws from the Tuscan label. I don't know, maybe it's the fact that I can't always understand what the lyrics are saying (the case of "Gloria Guida" in the chorus is striking), or that sometimes the horns don't come out as they should. But in the end, what matters in an album are the songs. And here, there are some beautiful ones. The previously mentioned "Gloria Guida" is a small masterpiece: a bitter text supported by a bittersweet melody, a true highlight of this album. But there’s no shortage of valuable tracks: "Una violenza inaudita" is another stellar song, also because the more compact formula of the track works in its favor: the Filarmonica too often indulges in endings a bit too long, and thirds verses not always so necessary. In terms of lyrics, the level is always very high, and it perhaps reaches its peak in the closing track, "I migliori": a sort of ancestral and dark ballad that almost seems to detach from the rest of the album, and announces a possible change of direction for a band that already shows signs of being one to watch.
Surely, there's room for improvement. But certainly, given also the fact that the band is starting to collaborate frequently with Alessandro Fiori, we should expect great things for the future.
