I've known Fightstar for a little over two years but I had never listened to the previous band of singer Charlie Simpson, the Busted... I wish I hadn't... really pathetic. But then he recovered and formed Fightstar. Good, good. Yes, they are definitely cool.
The 2006 debut is already a great album, but they reach the pinnacle in 2007 with "One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours". The genre theoretically would be Post Hardcore which, however, cannot be entirely encapsulated in this genre because yes, it's not true that it's absolutely unrelated but it can be better defined as Alternative Rock or something like that. Okay, I said something stupid, let's screw the genre discussions, okay?
The decade in which they are placed might be misleading, but it should be known that what we are dealing with is not the usual 2000's "Post Hardcore"/"Emo" group included in that circle of plagiarizing fringe players bent on straightening their hair (1 with the aforementioned genres they don't give a damn about these genres 2 this is what they do). No, these have their own identity (!). They have their typical style and are original.
And they have influences from serious genres. Just to say, among the groups they cite as major influences are Explosions In The Sky and Mono. And the Post Rock component is there, you can hear it, and it’s a good thing, all the tracks are enriched also with more "experimental" insertions, sometimes electronic, sometimes piano, sometimes orchestral, but this richness in terms of composition is always well dosed without ever being out of place and indeed it is a big plus. Also noteworthy is the decent variety of tracks, without any difficulty, they press hard on the accelerator and then slow down for greater melodiousness and poignancy, but always making the right choices. The quality remains at excellent levels, even though it generally decreases after a stunning initial quartet. The lyrics are good too. Everything's good. Beautiful. A lot.
