Presented with one of the ugliest covers in the history of music, here is "Maionese Is Godzilla" (yes, well, even the title is not too shabby in terms of ugliness...), a 2007 album by the Brazilian band Fiddy.
6 tracks (4+2 bonus tracks) of a rather indefinable genre, a humorous metal with industrial influences, a touch of tacky pop, a 9-member band whose role is somewhat unclear... in short, listen to it and define the genre yourself.
However, the very first track "Escarinho" already hints at the madness of Fiddy and is appreciable for its brief sugary pauses alternating with fierce rhythms, dark voices, and... rock 'n' roll organs.
The guitars assault you with their extraordinarily vicious tuning in "Holocausto Canibal Kid", yet it is interspersed with improbable almost classical piano interludes mixed with keyboards that have an almost dance sound, while "Parquinho" starts with a jingle that would definitely be more fitting in a village fair's arcade than on a record, and the vocal intonation is as varied as it is amusing.
The best one, in my opinion, is "A Fantastica Menina Diabetica No Castelo Malassombrado" complete with "La-la-la-la" horror-style choruses and a nice guitar solo!
The heart-wrenching voice on some tracks and dramatically baritone in others comically clashes with the context, but (perhaps due to the limited length of the CD) it doesn't tire and leaves us with 6 pleasant episodes in their absurdity.
ZOT!
