Maybe it's because I'm a bit attracted to astrology... and already the title was a good omen for me, but "Saturn in Opposition" by Ozpetek - who has already made a mark with other works - has other good reasons to be enjoyed.
A diverse yet tight-knit and cohesive group of friends... portrayed with pleasant naturalness and verisimilitude, grapples, wrestles with discussions on themes that everyone faces in real life: broken couples, betrayals, identity crises, and existential disorientation; some minor issues with toxicity or managing homosexual friendships... and then death, which subtly is inherent to life, but when it strikes a friend, it imposes itself on the superstitious who usually prefer to ignore it and not consider it an inevitable hypothesis... A film, you won't believe it, that manages to credit Ambra Angiolini... yes, you heard right! AMBRA?!! The former-ditz!! Well; to achieve this miracle, it means there's the hand of a King Midas director... Fantastically as usual Fantastichini... and a FILIPPO TIMI whom I don't dare ehm! Fear to consider the revelation of the coming years... Do you know him? NOOO! Rush to the bookstore to buy his autobiographical novel written together with Albinati: "AT MOST I'LL DIE" FANDANGO publisher.. You’ll understand who you’re dealing with: a great one! A former failed depressed afflicted by all the world's woes who one day discovered his talent... and lucky us!! In theater, he's already a star (he played ORPHEUS, PERCIVAL, SATAN) and now he's starting to engage with cinema...
Phenomenal the Turkish actress... I apologize!… but her name escapes me. Imagine she was the Pope's translator on the recent trip to TURKEY. I wonder if they informed the Pope that she participated in a film where gay realities are prevalent and well accepted... But let's get to the PUNCTUM DOLENS - you don't really believe perfection exists, do you? - MARGHERITA BUY... and here OZPETEK could do nothing... he's allowed one miraculous event per film... BUY is unbearable with her recurrent inexpressiveness... I've never seen an actress who repeats the same expressions and reads lines like from a teleprompter... instead of interpreting them, possibly stepping into the character... But when will this MARGHERITA bloom? Is it really possible that she never goes beyond her irritating, sterile whiny whisper and the same stereotyped poses from a yearly pageant for the local association? Usually one invokes the light, but here it is thick BUY! Beautiful eyes, agreed, but her interpretation is optional (alas!) or an event yet to come.. (SPES ULTIMA DEA). How many more films should we be patient for? To the next posters, displayed in theaters, the difficult judgment! But there's a good reason to lift the spirits... for lovers of the singer-songwriter, I point out a cameo by CONSOLI who warbles in French on the soundtrack... Chapeau!
Well! Have I convinced you? For these reasons I Accorsi... And you? Check the billboards in your city and head to the next show... with the clause satisfied or... clubbed!! Oh dear! What risks I'm taking! Enjoy the show! Smiles of distant unknowns! Your poetarainer!

What strikes the viewer most at the end of the film is the complete lack of any remnants to cling to, of a character more charismatic than the others, or a particular line.
Ozpetek confirms himself as a technically good director but absolutely needs to decide to steer his production in a new direction.
