In 2004, after years and years of hard work, a Canadian singer-songwriter with a warm and sweet voice named Leslie Feist burst onto the indie-pop music scene, accompanied by a catchy and charming song titled "Mushaboom," which ended up in a well-known Italian footwear commercial.
In 2007, after sold-out shows and an ever-growing fan base, Feist finally achieved recognition thanks to the single "My Moon, My Man", crowned by the international press as the most captivating song of last summer, but especially to the phenomenon "1,2,3,4" which, after being chosen by Apple as the theme for the launch of the Ipod Nano, reached the American singles top ten through downloads alone, making "ipod nano song" one of the most searched terms on the web and further boosting sales of the album "The Reminder".
Despite the presence of the driving "1,2,3,4" and "My Moon, My Man", The Reminder is an album full of catchy yet refined melodies, featuring songs marked by an elaborate folk songwriting interspersed with rock and sometimes jazz elements.
The balance of the whole work, also achieved with the help of musician Gonzales, plays on the alternation of purely acoustic tracks, such as the delicate opening of "So Sorry", an intimate and timid confession, or the folk-inspired "The Park", enriched by ambient sounds, which contrast with lively and fluctuating episodes, like the irresistible and amusing "I Feel It" and the irreverent "Sea Lion Woman", with choruses, claps, and guitars overshadowed by Feist's voice.
The Reminder is an eclectic, enjoyable album but not for that reason trivial, which could prove to be the surprise of the upcoming Grammy Awards, thanks to the four nominations it received.
