Italy as the European capital of the pop-punk movement? Probably yes, since for years now we've been producing names upon names with quality levels ranging from medium to high. The Roman band Feelbacks was formed in 2009 from the ashes of a Blink 182 cover band, a project set up to give space to their own personality, something that playing other people's hits certainly doesn't bring about.
After cutting their teeth in the clubs of the capital (among which the band cites a supporting date with Jennifer Milan that exceeded all expectations and was a highlight of their thus far short career), the four musicians finally arrive at the much-anticipated recording debut with "Through The Memories," a six-song EP that highlights strengths and weaknesses in equal measure. Starting with the positive factors, it must be admitted that a good job was done on the lead vocals and choruses, very much in line - in terms of production - with what is offered by their more famous overseas counterparts. Production was entrusted to Andrea Fusini (already working with Melody Fall), a now well-known name in the national new rock scene and skilled in bringing out the key points of this work. There are then certainly a couple of tracks that play quite well, namely "Love Win Tonight" and "My Little Glowing Star," tracks that could easily enchant teenagers looking for easy listening sounds with attached sentimental themes. And when it comes to the dark side of this EP, we'll start with the lyrics: it's okay to propose personal lyrics related to lived love stories and love in general, but debuting with something so specific is certainly not hitting the mark. It would definitely be better to be more general.
The sound context also needs to be reviewed, so much/too much/excessively tied to what made Simple Plan great, a band that the Feelbacks seem to adore... There's no doubt about it, we believe them! A little more personality and courage, and these guys will certainly be able to achieve many satisfactions, because after all, doing things in a scholastic way these days no longer pays off.
In conclusion, with the times as they are, recommending the purchase of a product like "Through The Memories" is a gesture I don't feel like making, there is still too much shyness in their proposal. We are hopefully awaiting the full-length album to understand who these Feelbacks really are.
