January 2010: at the venerable age of 35, Federica Camba releases her first album. Personally, I didn't know her and maybe it's better this way. Let me explain. This talented Sardinian singer-songwriter boasts, unfortunately, numerous successes as a songwriter for "artists" of the caliber of Laura Pausini, Marco Carta, and Alessandra Amoroso (oh my god!!!!).

At this point, many of you will refuse to continue reading and others will rush to criticize her. Don't make this mistake, also because I won't bore you for long. What composes this "Magari oppure no" is light years away from those useless, identical little songs so dear to Pausini. Here, there is talent, interpreted in a frank and sincere way. Federica sings about love, but she does it credibly. No endlessly repeated choruses, certainly inspired lyrics, and a hoarse, raspy voice that gives me chills. It might be a subjective emotion or maybe not, but what is certain is that this handful of songs deserves at least a listen, if only because the quality level is far superior to all that crap they shove in our faces every day and that, unfortunately, continues to be all the rage. So disheartening, folks.

If I had to compare her to someone, the early Jewel comes to mind, not for her voice but for her musical approach, the suffering Mia Martini, and vaguely Fiorella Mannoia.

Take half an hour of your life. I am sure that each of you might find yourself in these pop-rock ballads laced with simplicity and melancholy. Maybe or maybe not.

Rating: 3.5

PS: Federica I forgive you, but don't hang out with certain people anymore. Just focus on your career; you've already wasted too much time.
