THE REVIEW

Explosive debut for these Faz Waltz, four dirty Anglo-Irish rockers, four tracks that take us back to the glorious '70s, when hard rock reigned majestically, but also to the era of the Fab Four, the great T-Rex and Thin Lizzy, all seasoned with a baroque splash of glam.

All the ingredients are there to be hopeful about this EP released in 2008, which should precede a full-fledged album, or so hope those who have listened to this little gem. You may say: "Yes, but enough with this Anglo-Saxon rock, it's always them... Enough!", and I'll reply: "In fact, you’re not entirely wrong, we're fed up!". Actually, these four shady characters are based on the Milan - Como axis. Hard to believe but it's true:

But take all the credit Dario, because the praise is well-deserved! The product is excellent, it "grabs" you from the first track to the last and after just a few listens you completely forget that it's our compatriots playing it. The raw, in-tune and "dirty" voice, just right, and the pronunciation are perfect for the genre, as well as a real delight to the eardrums, the guitar grinds riffs and solos like a freight train at full speed, drums and bass are a rhythmic pair to make even the stones of Stonehenge move.

As soon as "Strong As I'm Tought" starts, you get catapulted into the most "rotten" and compelling hard rock of recent times, it's hard not to nod your head and keep your butt on the chair, a truly engaging rhythm, with the guitar ruling supreme (Marc Bolan shows the way) amidst various breaks and solos, everything is in its place. "Little Girl Star" is a magical cross between the Beatles’ pop and Thin Lizzy's irreverence, with a truly "masterful" ending. "No Fun in Love" winks strongly at none other than the most inspired Queen, both for rhythmic structure and vocal line hints, while the concluding, blazing "Favourite Son" closes the accounts, confirming that there's indeed a lot of style here.

An excellent EP, which leaves a mark scratching like an angry wildcat, just like Faz's voice (already with Maradonas and R.I.P.Etenti), and overwhelms like a river in full flow from start to finish. When's the album coming?
