Engulfed By Disgust

After a long break due to a lack of inspiration, here I am again reviewing on Debaser to satisfy my fans.

In this review, I will talk about the Eviscerated, a practically unknown Texan Brutal Death band that has already released 2 full-lengths. The one I'll talk about is their first album from 2006, titled "Engulfed By Disgust". By now, even in Brutal Death, as in many other genres, trends are rampant, and indeed this band defines itself (and partially is) Slamming Brutal Death Metal. In this "Engulfed By Disgust" the percentage of Hardcore Groove is only 10%, so the rhythms are generally quite structured and complex, and they don't fall into complete boredom like many purely Slam releases.

The production makes everything very precise, perhaps excessively clean, the drums are almost too precise in the rhythms, and the sound of bass and guitars is distorted, but not muddled and raw as it should be. Also, the riffs are nothing special, and so is the growl, sometimes more on the classic side, sometimes super guttural in slam style, with some George Fisher-like screams to end in beauty. The album is ultimately quite mediocre; sure, it's a good album, but inevitably destined to be forgotten, and in this case, not even considered by listeners of the genre. After all, it’s inevitable that when a genre seems to have said it all, bands tend to resemble each other, but there should also be an extra push, an edge that many not-at-all-original bands have and can be enough to record an excellent album.

In the new Full, which I will review shortly, Eviscerated have moved even more towards heavier Brutal, yet enhancing the guitar sound to make it more massive and distorted. Another flaw of this "Engulfed By Disgust" is certainly the percentage of Slam, which, albeit low, ruins all the slow moments of the record. This genre, even if born just a short time ago, already has nothing more to say, many bands choose this path also to be facilitated in the rhythms, and to be able to churn out only overly simple and always the same riffs.

For this album, a passing grade is fine, but nothing more. Brutal Regards.
