The Profile

Evildead is a Los Angeles thrash metal band formed in 1987 by ex‑Agent Steel members Juan Garcia and Mel Sanchez. The name references Sam Raimi’s film Evil Dead. Their debut album, Annihilation of Civilization, was released in 1989 (SPV), followed by The Underworld in 1991; after hiatuses, they returned with United States of Anarchy in 2020.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1987 by Juan Garcia and Mel Sanchez after leaving Agent Steel; band name inspired by Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead; debut album Annihilation of Civilization released in 1989 on SPV; vocalist Phil Flores is credited on the debut; later full-lengths include The Underworld (1991) and United States of Anarchy (2020).

One review praises Evildead’s debut Annihilation of Civilization as a thrash masterpiece. It recalls the band’s 1987 Los Angeles origins (ex-Agent Steel members Juan Garcia and Mel Sanchez), the name’s nod to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, and SPV’s 1989 release. Themes include post-nuclear dread influenced by Chernobyl. Standout tracks and musicianship receive emphatic acclaim.
