The credit for bringing gothic music into the charts worldwide undoubtedly goes to them. And Evanescence certainly didn't do it - as some claim, in the absurd belief that a product is of quality only if it remains niche - in an outrageously and exclusively commercial manner.
This is demonstrated by this live show captured in CD and DVD, in which the American band offers us (perhaps too soon) a journey through the atmospheres of Fallen and beyond: in addition to the studio-recorded single, Missing (a wonderful slow song preceding Fallen, but now seems to evoke too much of that album), Anywhere But Home contains the beautiful Breathe No More (a slow song sung divinely with intense lyrics), the surprising Thoughtless (hearing Amy scream profanities with her splendid voice is an amazing spectacle), and the impetuous and captivating Farther Away (which would be perfect if the chorus didn't lose a bit of pace).
The music of Evanescence is not at all conventional: it is, in fact, very personal and thrives on a gothic atmosphere to the core, although immersed in contexts varying between rock, metal, classic, ballad. These are not easy songs to perform, but the band masters them completely, while Amy Lee's voice reigns supreme over the audience, excellently singing all the pieces.
An absolutely unmissable show, as are the extras on the DVD (you wouldn't want to miss Amy & Co. playing baseball with McDonald's sandwiches backstage at their Roman concert!)... Nine.
