The Errata Corrige are a mythical Italian prog group from the '70s from Turin: their posthumously released album in 1976 "Siegfried, il drago e altre storie" — a little too late for the Italian prog scene, much like "Forse le lucciole non si amano più" by La Locanda delle Fate — is a genuine hidden gem that all fans of classic symphonic pastoral in the bucolic and fairy-tale style of the early Celeste should absolutely know. In my opinion, it is a high-value album, rich in fantasy references in the best tradition of prog: the concept is based on the adventures of the knight Citadel and the legend of Siegfried. The atmospheres and settings are calm and refined but, at the same time, varied and fragmented in the typical symphonic style of the era.
Now the legendary Genoese label Black Widow, now an authentic reference point for progressive music lovers with a particular predisposition for dark atmospheres, publishes, 40 years later, a newly re-recorded edition of "Siegfried, il drago e altre storie". As stated in the liner notes, the musicians wanted to give new life to the old compositions by recording them with new technology (originally the LP was recorded with 8 tracks) and offering new arrangements. In terms of production, the music certainly benefits although the "magic" that the old vinyl emanated might be lost. Ultimately, one can say that the original spirit has been preserved. Simultaneously, Black Widow reissues, for the occasion, the old album on vinyl. Alongside the CD, a DVD is also included where, besides the music, listeners can also hear the musicians' comments. There is also a cover of “Cadence And Cascade” by King Crimson.
This is, in any case, a commendable operation that gives new life and unearths from oblivion one of the nuggets of the cultural heritage of Italian prog and beyond.
