I remember when I found out that my neighbor had made a record, "A RECORD??", more than twenty years must have passed.
At the time, anyone who made a record became a sort of demigod; only those who were truly talented produced a vinyl, and my neighbor with his saxophone was among them! These days, this selection no longer exists, but there are some rare exceptions like PunchRecords, which produces, even in this case, exclusively vinyl records.
A few weeks ago, I received my copy of Kanashii-The Pleasure of Sadness (2004); in itself, it’s already a beautiful object, a gray vinyl with a gray cover. It’s no coincidence, in Kanashii there is no room for other colors, the shades can change (Through Pluriverse), you can get close to black (The Prize of Life: Death), but it's always about shades of gray.
The sounds are those of the past, that is, of analog synthesizers like Minimoog, MS20, and the classic Rolands. Ursich uses them with great mastery, as if they were brushes on the canvas of an impressionist painter.
Kanashii gathers recordings from '93 to 2000; nevertheless, the result is of rare coherence, minimal electronics and psychedelia for an instrumental album that borders on, if not reaches, perfection.
Blessed solitude and the dark sky are the ideal context to immerse oneself in the pleasure of sadness.
