And here we have Erik Satie, the measure of sounds, the provocateur, the non-musician... and yet, as John Cage said, "Erik Satie is indispensable to us." Satie is the true father of minimalism, the precursor of ambient music. But he is also much more, because despite everything and despite the time that has passed, he remains unique and without imitators. I have more than a dozen CDs of Erik Satie, and I have listened to his music performed by pianists of different ages and nations, and I must admit that the music of the ingenious French composer always appeals to me, in any interpretation.
But there is one album that I particularly like: Esoterik Satie. The performer is the Italian pianist Alessandra Celletti. Her interpretation is circular and delicate, yet at the same time passionate and rich in colors. You can tell from the first notes of Picese Froides (the three pieces that open the CD) that the album works and will capture us in a wonderful sonic kaleidoscope. Even the selection of pieces is remarkable, combining the more well-known pieces, including the beautiful Gymnopedie and the six Gnossiennes, with slightly rarer pieces like the Petite Ouverture à danser.
The album ends... but a sweet dreamlike atmosphere lingers in the air.
