Italian avant-garde metal band from Padua led by Davide Tiso, noted for blending black metal, jazz and experimental/progressive structures across several acclaimed albums.

Formed in Padua; Davide Tiso is the guitarist and principal composer. Early lineup included Giuliano Mogicato; early material (Phormula / RePhormula) used drum machines and electronic elements. The Painter's Palette introduced pronounced jazz and trumpet parts. Artwork for Pain Is Necessary To Know credited to Tryne Og Kim (as noted in reviews). First releases associated with Code 666 label (as stated in reviews).

DeBaser reviews present Ephel Duath as an Italian avant‑garde metal band from Padua led by Davide Tiso. Reviews trace their evolution from the early electronic/post‑black of Phormula to the jazz‑tinged The Painter's Palette and the more chaotic Pain Is Necessary To Know, praising their originality and difficulty. The remix album (Pain Remixes The Known) is received poorly by some reviewers. Overall the band is celebrated for experimental ambition and compositional complexity.

For:Fans of avant-garde/progressive metal and experimental music listeners

Nothing less than the best band in the world concerning sonic and lyrical avant-gardism, and they are Italian, let's not forget that!

The result is not great: this "Pain Remixes The Known," although a peculiar album and not easily accessible, endowed with unusual and uncommon atmospheres, doesn't really make a mark, sometimes because the track is too dispersive, sometimes because the urge for experimentation makes the fundamental endpoint of a musical work lose its focus: the music.
