Once upon a time, there were the Cheap Trick, the classic example of the union between the power of hard rock and the airy Beatles-esque atmospheres. When, towards the end of the '80s, Robin Zander's band faded away, the torchbearer of the Fabfour's word in hard rock passed to Enuff Z'nuff. Just listen to the raspy voice of singer Donnie Vie, very close to that of John Lennon, the harmonious use of the choirs, the round glasses of bassist Chip, to realize that their affinity for the Beatles was much more than a simple passion.

In reality, Enuff Znuff were part of the glam-street melting pot that exploded in America towards the late '80s with a multitude of colors and rowdy street rock. However, the band's distinctive element was, in addition to the influence of Lennon & Co., the excellence of songwriting and a trio of spectacular albums of which this "Animals" represents the pinnacle.

While Superstitions and Black rain essentially refer to the purest glam, it is with the power ballad Right by your side and the carefree These daze that the Beatles element becomes predominant: extremely positive tracks with choruses and backing vocals that are hard to forget. With Master of pain, the band returns to street paths while Donnie Vie's sensual voice is the absolute protagonist in the tear-jerking ballad Innocence. The rest of the album travels at high levels, between multicolored glam, street guitars, and unforgettable choruses, as in One step closer to you or in the driving hard rock'n'roll of Mary Ann lost her baby, The love train, and Rock N' World.

After this album, the band would become a cult phenomenon, with albums that were nevertheless never trivial, always well played, but unfortunately snubbed by the masses looking to find the true essence of rock in sounds contaminated by a thousand influences. Not long ago came the news of the death by overdose of historical guitarist Derek Frigo. Enuff Z'nuff do not give up and continue on anyway.
