Again on Gallo Rojo and its products.
To clear up any doubt: I am not their press agent but a colleague and friend who has been close to their label ever since it... didn't exist!!! This is to clarify the fact that my reviews are signs of esteem and affection and... of course, if they sell a few more records, it doesn't hurt!!!!
ENRICO Terragnoli is the holy hermit of the national guitar. It would be unfair to call him the Italian Marc Ribot and improper (just as some hasty and unthinking critic defined Battisti as the "Italian Tim Buckley"). Terragnoli pursues with stubborn, joyful, detached solitude his own artistic path made of rock flashes, torrid Mexican beats, bric-a-brac from junk dealers. I already like him for choosing junkyard guitars (memorable was the eko red fiesta from centuries ago), impure sounds, crooked and dirt paths. Really, Terragnoli is unique in his craft, a humble and diligent artisan of strings, a prince of understatement and sinuous insinuation.
His project "ORCHESTRA VERTICAL" released by the resistant EL GALLO ROJO RECORDS presents another unforeseen Terragnolian feature: singability. In fact, it is fortunately a record of songs, and oh what songs, and how easily they lend themselves to the ear. Yes, they are truly songs to whisper through clenched teeth on a beach in Zipolite, with a fresh Xibeca in hand doing nothing but dreaming of twenty-year-olds with amber skin and a hint of nostalgia for the Parisian autumn. (But let it remain only a feeling and not a reality, for never again does one want to return home) Laid back by the clear and sensual voice of Terragnoli's wife, Claudia Bidoli, the ragtag brigade of the Orchestra in vertical dive, landed by a cannon never too much, consists of ZENO DE ROSSI, drums, percussion; DANILO GALLO and STEFANO SENNI on double basses; OSCAR MARCHIONI, Hammond; GIORGIO PACORIG, rhodes; FABRIZIO PUGLISI; piano; THOMAS SINIGALLIA; accordion; FABIO BASILE; guitar k; ACHILLE SUCCI; bass clarinet; GERHARD GSCHLOESSL, trombone; ALESSANDRO DE ROSSI, percussion; ELENA TERRAGNOLI, flute; NICOLO' SORGATO, charango; FRANCESCO BEARZATTI, tenor sax.
Once again a different CD within the varied offerings of Gallo Rojo, which this time aims to give a ray of sunshine and a dragon cloud to the listeners' ears. MAKE THIS WORK THE HIT OF YOUR SUMMER!!!!
