Years spent writing songs for others have made Emeli Sandé a surprisingly mature, deep artist, confident in herself and her great talent. Born in 1987, the young Scottish songwriter of African origin has recently released her first album of original songs titled ‘’Our Version of Events’’ (produced, among others, by Naughty Boy and Alicia Keys for ‘’Virgin Records’’), preceded by the release of ‘’Heaven’’, the first single, capable of reaching the top of the charts and radio airplay across Europe. A graduate in neurology, Emeli Sandé studied Medicine at the University of Glasgow but, upon reaching her fourth year of studies, decided to leave to fully dedicate herself to music. A passion without limits, therefore, which clearly emerges from her fascinating voice and bursts into the listener's heart, who cannot help but be enchanted.
Recently defined by Simon Cowell as his ‘’favorite songwriter of the minute’’, Emeli presents herself to the general public as a versatile artist whose personality manages to adapt more or less well to all musical genres. The album in question is a great demonstration of this: Emeli travels tracing a subtle line that connects black music to the most sophisticated atmospheres of the '80s, without forgetting hints of rhythm and blues or commercial pop, touching the low chords of lo-fi (think of ‘’Breaking The Law’’). And this is precisely one of the best aspects of ‘’Our Version of Events’’, an album with multiple facets that (in most cases…) satisfies and does not make you regret purchasing it. It contains fourteen tracks: from the hit ‘’Heaven’’, to the delight of ‘’Next To Me’’ to the collaborations with Naughty Boy himself (with whom Emeli duets in ‘’Daddy’’) and Alicia Keys, author of the wonderful ‘’Hope’’.
Emeli Sandé offers a delicious calling card by proposing herself as the new champion of black music as well as the true musical revelation of 2012. A music career full of pearls and small peculiarities is on the way.
