Elyne is not the typical band that loves to dwell too much on the good they've done; they always try to move beyond. Just over a year after the project's inception, the Ravenna-based group has released a promising debut EP titled "Syncretism," performed live across Europe, and even opened shows for Architects, Chelsea Grin, and Being As An Ocean. Not bad for a band just starting out, right?!
Today we find them once again with what is considered the most important step for any respectable band, the debut album. "What Burns Inside," the chosen title, shows us a band significantly transformed in their approach to music compared to the EP, much more confident in their own capabilities and precisely for this reason cautious to avoid any easy association with the genre that musically initiated them, metalcore. Today, very little of that sound is present, perhaps only the power of the rhythm section (far more potent than before). What stands out most is the strong shift towards post-hardcore territories, making Elyne decidedly more credible in the eyes of everyone and comfortable in their own skin.
The strength of this band, in my view, remains the good quality of songwriting, not excessively detailed but attentive in giving the right dimension to songs that are quite different in mood. Most of the work has been done on guitars, which possess Nordic somatic traits in terms of technical proficiency and are skilled in providing ample oxygen to the sound structure through broad, well-crafted melodic scenarios. The vocal dualism sees the growl remain the same as before while the melodic parts have definitely improved. In short, it's a strong comeback and a very valid calling card, this "What Burns Inside," to be proudly showcased in Italy and abroad, especially live, where tracks like "That is real" and "Behind the smile" will receive well-deserved acclaim from the audience.
