The Profile

Eluveitie is a Swiss folk metal band formed in 2002 by Chrigel Glanzmann. Their sound fuses melodic death metal with Celtic folk elements and instruments such as hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, flutes, and violins. Key releases include Slania (2008), Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion (2009), Everything Remains (As It Never Was) (2010), Helvetios (2012), Origins (2014), Evocation II: Pantheon (2017), and Ategnatos (2019).

Signed to Nuclear Blast; blends folk and melodic death metal; known for Celtic instruments (hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, flutes); Evocation I is fully acoustic with no growls; Helvetios is a concept album about the Helvetii and Rome; lyrics have included Gaelic passages; notable track: "Inis Mona"; Anna Murphy contributed hurdy-gurdy and clean vocals during the classic era.

Six DeBaser reviews chart Eluveitie’s path from the folk/death fusion of Slania to the fully acoustic Evocation I. Helvetios is seen as ambitious yet repetitive, while Everything Remains is more accessible but less fresh than earlier work. Early EP Vên already shows the band’s Celtic instrumentation and metal bite. Overall verdict: energetic, distinctive, sometimes divisive.
