"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" comes out as the launch single from the album "CAPTAIN FANTASTIC AND THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY" in 1975.

The only single (accompanied by the B-side "House Of Cards") from an extraordinary album; the compositional peak of an artist who at this time held 2% of international record sales.

In my opinion, with this track, which apparently for its beauty alone was sufficient to describe a masterpiece album of its generation, Elton John demonstrates the compositional level he achieved by perfecting the glam started with "GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD."

The first thing that you notice when listening to this ballad is the search for harmonies as the primary instrument, given that the sound base is predominantly piano-voice-drums-bass and acoustic guitar. The Beach Boys-like harmonies give an epic quality and emotional strength to a song that talks about suicide and unfortunately is also autobiographical. This is why Elton's vocal interpretation is among his best ever, where he shows everyone what he is able to do with his voice and especially the mastery of the falsetto used elegantly and not as was customary in those years, instead using it in a very eccentric way.

The first verse begins with a very rough and low piano intro, the voice enters along with the drums. Everything is very light until the end of the chorus where even the harmonies have a low dynamic, rendering the entire song very delicate. The second verse, however, at first seems to retrace the first but then, just as the words tell of the artist's attempted suicide, the drums and guitar become heavier and the voice even more desperate, yet always with elegance. The second chorus is more sustained with the addition of a few more harmonies, then returning to the normality of the beginning of the track and giving way to the special (third verse). From here begins a triumph of harmonies and epic quality that lead to the last chorus, where the entire song is launched with an emotionality that only Elton John was capable of expressing. Vocal technique and style perfectly mixed.

The finale transforms this difficult ballad into a stadium anthem that during live performances also demonstrates the greatness of the Elton John Band. The piece ends by fading out, as is logical for a track like this.

Everything is perfect and especially eternal because this is a 7-minute track that never tires and always moves. A step further in the career of an artist who has given dozens and dozens of songs like this to everyone.
