I take the opportunity to review this small mixed CD, released with the magazine Trend number 44, to tell you about an artist who, in my opinion, is quite significant in the current post-techno scene: Ellen Allien.

A renowned Berlin DJ and producer, the girl has two albums under her belt and a beautiful collaboration with compatriot (and sound neighbor) Apparat: together, they have intelligently explored nuanced environments between glitch and electronic music more akin to the dancefloor in the recent "Orchestra Of Bubbles" (one of the ten albums of this year, always in my humble opinion).

The CD in question is just a minimal taste of her sound skills, a timid way for newcomers to approach her and a small gift for fans. The coordinates remain close to her latest effort: Sleepless and Jet come from that CD, but both are presented with remixes that emphasize the more physical aspect of the tracks and do not look out of place at all, highlighting the positive ambiguity of this music and its solid compositional foundation.

The other three tracks initially continue along the same fascinating/driving wave of solid basslines and engaging melodies, even if only hinted at. Listen to the brief distorted crescendo on the playfully techouse rhythm base just before the end of Far From Jaded, what a touch of class! It might seem like the most inebriated and obsessed Carl Craig… And the epic syncopations of Where Is Germany And How Do I get There that gradually fade slowly into more abstract territories for the delight of my (and hopefully your) neurons.

Despite its brevity, this small selection only serves to confirm the talent and importance of this artist, truly capable of creating wonderful minimal-techno architectures (or IDM, as you prefer).
