When it comes to capitalism, everyone is afraid of the harmonica
In the Italian music scene, there are several comedic bands that on first listen may bring a smile and perhaps even something more. But that's where it ends. The listening will hardly be repeated.
Elio e le storie tese are much more. Each listen to their songs is a discovery. Live, they are extraordinary. What I am reviewing is their first true live album, after the many "cd brulè" released after each concert. The reference to Deep Purple is clear and it's proof that the band knows how to make fun of themselves.
The album consists of two CDs and the songs come from recordings made from 1996 to 1999. It's recommended listening for anyone who wants to have fun while listening to good music, which spans every existing genre because here we are talking about musicians of the highest level who nevertheless have the courage to play with their abilities.
The intro of the two CDs is a speech by the Mystical Philosophical Harmonica Player and it is one of the gems that enthusiasts will find in this album. I've concluded that those who criticize Elio e le storie tese do not understand them; it's not a fault, not everyone has the same capacity to laugh. Many are limited. Many might laugh at a Boldi movie. It's not necessarily a handicap. But let me tell you, these guys are geniuses. I will never forget the first time I heard "Il vitello dai piedi di balsa," I was in the car, and I couldn't drive anymore from laughing.
Enjoy the listen. And take life more cheerfully, often you don't always have to be serious.
P.S.: I'm ready for the slaughter, if you treat me too badly, Supergiovane will come to save me
