It’s impossible not to reach at least halfway through the record without feeling numb and torpid.

I would describe this work simply as an interminable and therapeutic listen, incredibly expanded both in its time as duration and in its time as extension.

Gnod's 'The Somnambulist’s Tale' is a unique and immersive instrumental album characterized by its abstract, evolving soundscapes. The music blends kraut-rock, ambient, and psychedelic influences, creating a hypnotic and therapeutic listening experience that feels like a cosmic symphony. The album’s continuous sound layers shift through varied atmospheres, evoking a dreamlike state perfect for listeners open to losing track of time. Dive into Gnod’s hypnotic soundscape and experience 'The Somnambulist’s Tale'—a dreamy, cosmic musical journey awaits you.

 An àpeiron made into music.

Imagine a compound with Bitches Brew, Endtroducing..... and Freak Out! left to ferment for hundreds of years.

The Heliocentrics' album '13 Degrees of Reality' builds on their debut with an even more refined experimental fusion of jazz, funk, psychedelia, and ethnic influences. The album’s complex, unpredictable structure and diverse instrumentation challenge traditional boundaries, creating an avant-garde musical experience. It showcases a sophisticated collage of sound that promises to be a future jazz landmark. The reviewer envisions this as the direction jazz should evolve towards. Dive into The Heliocentrics' boundary-pushing soundscape and experience the future of jazz today!

The Loose are one of those bands that have best been able to translate true intergalactic journeys of the mind into music.

Wild and undulating jams, as well as moments of trance and mental relaxation, are among what is found on the album.

35007's 1994 debut album 'Especially For You' blends stoner, space, and progressive rock into a psychedelic experience. Though still raw and evolving, the album showcases wild jams and trancelike moods. Key tracks “Suave” and “Elephant Song” highlight their artistic potential. The album serves as a solid foundation for their later, more refined work. Dive into 35007's psychedelic space rock journey—listen now to experience their unique instrumental fusion!

"This ain’t no place for ideals, this is no time for change."

"It is not a stunning album, but for a group that has released three unique masterpieces out of four records, closing the career this way is much more than dignified."

Cop Shoot Cop's final album, Release (1994), marks a shift from their earlier intense, experimental industrial sound to a more accessible style incorporating rock elements. The album retains the band's core themes of nihilism and harsh reality but with a controlled and melodic approach. While it may lack the raw violence of their past work, it remains energetic and compelling. This release bridges to Tod Ashley's future with Firewater and solidifies Cop Shoot Cop's status as an influential cult band in industrial music. Dive into Cop Shoot Cop's Release to experience raw industrial noise evolving into captivating alternative rock.

Squarepusher, who, with his obsession for jazz and harmonies played directly on the bass, has created a decidedly unique, convoluted, and sophisticated style.

This is a jazz album, period. The electronics used give it just an abstract and avant-garde touch.

Squarepusher's 1998 album 'Music Is Rotted One Note' showcases his jazz roots with sophisticated bass and drum improvisations. Unlike his other works rich in drum'n'bass and electronic noise, this album leans heavily into jazz and live performance aesthetics. The electronics serve as experimental accents rather than central elements. While inspired, this album may perplex listeners expecting conventional IDM or electronic dance music and is better suited for those familiar with his diverse style. Dive into Squarepusher's jazz-infused experimental album and experience a different side of electronic music.

"Fishbone offers a significant mix of genres played in an absolutely innovative way for the time."

"Rock and roll is black, rock and roll is white."

Fishbone's 1985 debut EP blends funk, ska, reggae, and rock in an innovative way that challenged musical and racial stereotypes. The album features a balanced mix of genres with raw production and lively instrumentation. Beyond the music, Fishbone's work engages in social commentary and blurs genre boundaries. Considered a milestone of the 80s, the album captures the band's youthful energy and diversity. Listen to Fishbone’s groundbreaking debut and explore the fusion that reshaped 80s music!

Everything manages to be psychedelic, dark, consistently strange.

Les plays for the sheer pleasure of playing, mindful of the lesson from the genius from Baltimore, Frank Zappa.

Primus delivers an inventive and darkly psychedelic reinterpretation of the Chocolate Factory soundtrack, blending funk, skewed rhythms, and grotesque atmospheres. The reunion with drummer Tim Alexander adds technical finesse, while the band’s matured style reflects more order and precision. Though shorter and interspersed with light interludes, the album remains a strong and entertaining work, fitting well within Primus’ unique legacy. Listen to Primus’ dark and funky reimagining of the Chocolate Factory soundtrack and experience their unique musical world.

Imagine music created with the spirit of Miles Davis the experimenter, with Zappa-esque instinct and ethics, and infused with kraut cosmicity.

Cinematic music that sends you on a journey towards a vanishing point.

The Heliocentrics' debut album 'Out There' blends jazz, funk, trip-hop, and vintage electronics into a psychedelic, cosmic soundscape. Instrumental and rhythm-driven, the album pays homage to great experimenters like Miles Davis and Frank Zappa. Despite its eclectic influences, the music remains organic and original. The album invites listeners on an unconventional, dreamlike sonic journey. Dive into The Heliocentrics' 'Out There' and experience a unique cosmic journey through jazz and funk fusion.

For Freddie Hubbard, as well as for jazz in general, it's time to change.

The tracks stand in the middle of the revolution, a rather quiet version of the revolution presented here.

Freddie Hubbard's 1970 album Red Clay stands as a significant work bridging classic hard bop with emerging electric soul-funk influences. The album features an impressive lineup including Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter, offering a subtle yet impactful jazz revolution. Unlike the radical experimentation of contemporaries like Miles Davis, Red Clay presents a structured and grounded approach to jazz's evolving soundscape. This album is considered a classic by jazz enthusiasts for its blend of tradition and innovation. Listen to Red Clay and discover Freddie Hubbard's masterful blend of hard bop and electric jazz innovation.

I dare to consider it one of my favorite works by (in my opinion) the best jazz musician ever.

So, do not approach the listening as a mere revisited greatest hits, but as a representation of the musical spirit of one of the greatest in music.

This review highlights the 1963 album by Charles Mingus, emphasizing its smooth flow and variety. Though not a revolutionary work, the album captures the essence of Mingus's musical spirit, featuring notable tracks and Eric Dolphy's participation. It is recommended for jazz enthusiasts, including newcomers. Discover the timeless energy of Charles Mingus's masterpiece—listen and experience jazz history come alive!
