Dream Theater Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Voto:
mauro60, sorry but if I consider Dream Theater a mediocre band that makes sterile, stereotypical, and totally unexpressive music, I do so because I have listened to hundreds of artists and compared them in order to judge with knowledge of the facts. This is my opinion; does it make me arrogant and obtuse as you said?

For me, the only masterpiece, although limited to the realm of hard rock, is "In Rock" by the Purple; I find the others much colder and less inspired, including the praised Machine Head.

Purity of sound and technical perfection? Is that what makes a live performance a great one? In this perspective, it would mean that the live shows of the MC5 are terrible and those of Dream Theater are perfect...

I paradoxically prefer Whitesnake in their most over-the-top album, "1987". When it comes to late '70s hard rock, I definitely prefer U.F.O., Van Halen, or Rainbow.

I quote comment 238 from mike76 regarding the balance between mind and gut; I completely agree.

Daydream Nation, Sister, Evol are, in my opinion, milestones, just like the first two albums by the Stooges... it’s clear that we have different ways of conceiving rock, oh well.

Sorry Emerson, what does being a "giant" have to do with whether you like it or not? Are only the artists you like giants? Help me understand.

Aren't Sonic Youth or Pavement giants? I don't know, but to me, they definitely are.
