In the meantime, don’t use that tone of condescension with me because I know those bands you mentioned very well and I can only agree about "Alice in Chains" if we're talking about superiority. Then let me repeat that Pearl Jam have nothing to do with grunge; it’s a label that was slapped onto them by magazines. You, being a fan of grunge, should know that if we can define this genre, it must refer musically to a mix of noise rock (taken from Sonic Youth) and '70s hard rock (Black Sabbath, etc.), while the lyrics generally revolve around the despair and desolation of life. Well, I don’t see any of these two aspects in PJ. Musically they are, in fact, classic rock, with no influence from Sonic Youth and the like, while their lyrics are much more characterized by social critique than by the typical aura of depression seen in "grunge" bands.

Grunge upstarts?! If you want my opinion, PJ have nothing to do with the grunge movement. They're a rock band with their own unique characteristics; the same goes for Alice in Chains. If you think they're worth nothing, tell us which bands you consider so much better so we can have a little fun…

It's true, atman, "State of love and trust" is beautiful; just think that with my old band, we used to play it and it was always amazing.

No Antonio, it was not my intention to create a controversy, but some decorum is required. I mean: tell me, how many of those millions of supposed fans do you think would listen to Madonna if she hadn't been pushed by the major labels to the max? I think at least 80% less. And what if these individuals had actually listened to something truly worthwhile at least once in their lives? Well, even less.

Well, specifically regarding W.M.A., I don't think the PJ have given their best on the experimental front here; perhaps something from "No Code" would be preferable in this case. As for "Blood," you have to like punk, and I don't digest it very well, even though I don't evaluate it too negatively... it's just in the background... However, nothing to say about the lyrics: the first deals with racial prejudices, while the second is a no-frills attack on some magazines that had criticized Vedder...

Sure, I'm not disputing personal tastes; it's just that if I want to listen to some psychedelia, I feel like something from Porcupine Tree, while if I put on Pearl Jam, I expect the rock guitar riffs and Vedder's beautiful lyrics... in short, a mature rock but still with a classic touch, but of course, everyone can think what they want ;-D

Don't take it as a criticism; it was just an opinion. However, considering your nickname, it seems we're starting from different expectations when listening to this album...

In my opinion, Pearl Jam is a band that essentially plays classic rock, so looking for psychedelic approaches in this album seems inappropriate to me; I much prefer tracks like "Dissident" and "Animal," and on the ballad front, the mournful "Elderly Woman...". Ultimately, the dramatic climax of "Rearviewmirror" is unmatched. The two songs you mentioned as masterpieces I have always considered secondary and not essential within the platter.

So what the hell does it mean that he continues to be successful at 48 years old? Should that prove something to me about the quality of his music? And yet it's me who says trivial things, huh...?

Cravestman, let me be clear: Madonna is to music what Rocco Siffredi is to chastity. Is that okay for you, or should I be more explicit? She mainly appeals to sheep-like individuals who have not a shred of musical culture of any kind, and from the nonsense you're saying, it seems you belong to that category. I hope you're no older than 15...
