But what prejudices, I have listened to them and judged them for what they are.

lovelorn, forgive me, but after your words I was convinced that your listens were quite different... After Forever is the classic epic-melodic metal band like there are a billion of them, and in the song you mentioned in particular they resemble Vision Divine, plus an over-the-top dose of epic choirs—nothing special really... at this point I don't see a chasm between these and the SX.

"the people who criticize the good Symphony X", you see it’s right there in that term, "good", the essence of it all...good can be a stone mason or a carpenter, but an artist is not required to be good, rather originality and expressiveness are what matter.

Justice, I'm sorry you don't realize it, but post-rock is a genre that includes true geniuses, like Tortoise and Slint, who were able to change the coordinates of rock in the '90s; if you prefer SX over bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, forgive me for saying this, but it's due to your musical immaturity; the fact that you limit yourself to considering certain records "boring" is only because you still can't comprehend them. Works like "Spiderland" or "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven" have an artistic depth unattainable for records like Odyssey that only aim for the groove of prog-metal, which can be enjoyable, but as entertainment, not certainly art.

Actingout, right now I’m listening to "Samus Octology" by Irepress and I think it’s light-years ahead of anything that has ever been produced in the prog-metal scene.

@47: yes, Isis are quite similar to Neurosis, especially in the early pure sludge albums, while in the last 2 they have leaned more towards post-rock sounds, which I personally prefer. I recommend starting with "Panopticon" and "Oceanic." As for Steve Von Till, are you asking what I think of "If I Should Fall To The Field" or about Neurosis in general?

"while they forget a deep group with pure feeling and with amazing lyrics like Pain of Salvation that devour more than half of the rock bands around for breakfast"... so, I admit that in the prog-metal scene some of their albums are above average, but I assure you that there is so much, but so much better even just from 2000 to today.

senmayan, I’ve listened to quite a few prog-metal bands; you have no idea how many albums I collected back in the day. I’m very familiar with Pain of Salvation, Threshold, Ayreon, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Opeth, Riverside, Shadow Gallery, Fates Warning, Ark, Planet X, etc... Some of these I still listen to occasionally, but I've reassessed the majority negatively; it’s inevitable when you’ve experienced certain masterpieces.
