In my opinion, saying "Japanese women are the hottest on Earth" is like someone saying "German books are the most interesting on Earth." It doesn't make sense: there are super hot girls, mega ugly ones, and those who are just okay, just like everywhere else in the world.

Perhaps two albums (one noise rock and the other gangsta rap) cannot be compared from a musical analysis perspective, but it is possible to express an assessment of the artistic merit of each by rating them from 0 to 10 and then comparing the two evaluations. For example, I believe there could be two albums from completely antithetical genres that both receive a rating of 6, although for very different reasons. Instead, I think Lux's example regarding Dinosaur Jr. is far from unwarranted, as they share several common elements with Afterhours in their approach.

@nzucobr: I have no pretensions of absolutism whatsoever. I’m surprised you haven’t yet understood that what I express is merely my opinion. Just my view of things. According to my personal parameters, there are genres that are more deserving than others. For example, for me pop/dance (Kylie Minogue, Madonna, etc...) is inferior as a genre in its expressive approach compared to post-rock. Therefore, taking into account my evaluative parameters, the best album by Madonna will be inferior to the worst album by "Labradford," and thus I cannot limit the rating to a specific realm.

I happened to see a group of friends playing one evening. The concert went well, but there were very few people. Towards the end, I heard someone in the crowd shout: "fate Alba Chiara" and "fate Gli Spari Sopra!" And those were songs that had nothing to do with their genre. I was really taken aback. It means that the few people who were there didn’t even care about their songs but were just waiting for a few famous hits. A bunch of disgusting boors! Then we shouldn’t complain if there are almost no serious artists emerging in Italy. With this mentality…

Well, laRock, if you're talking about that specific case, that's another story. I was making a general point—why are you bringing up a concert you attended? How would I know? Generally speaking, if someone asks me for a song I haven't prepared, I don't see why I should play it... I can't stand people who go to a concert of their own free will and end up disappointed because they didn't hear any covers! But come on, if you don't like the band, don't go listen to them, or if, on the other hand, you don't know them and want to hear them for the first time, judge positively or negatively regardless of whether they play the cover you like or not, for crying out loud! I don’t know... it seems from your words that listening to original pieces is some sort of effort... it’s not like the doctor prescribed it, right? If you want covers, go to the cover bands—they're everywhere!
