In my opinion, the content of music is not solely the lyrics, or at least it is not just that. Otherwise, it would be called poetry or prose. Music should primarily convey feelings and emotions, regardless of the lyrics. Indeed, for me, De Andrè has been a tremendous poet. His songs are, in all respects, poems and must be appreciated by paying attention to the wonderful lyrics. However, in the realm of rock music, there are expressive instruments that can potentially reach a different level. For instance, just as an abstract painting does not have an official interpretation and can thus be understood and experienced by the audience in a thousand distinct ways, in the same way, in rock music, the communicative power of Wyatt's or Slint's music, even excluding the lyrics, can express different states of mind in the listener, who, with their own mind, perhaps reworks the most varied emotional scenarios. This is my opinion, and now I just hope I won't be sent to hell for it.
