Horrible album. For me, the only one that stands out from "Reverend" is the debut "Portrait of an American Family" and a few tracks from the next album; the rest is all trash or almost.

Eraser_Ed, I hope you are being ironic in your judgments about "Rolling Stone." That magazine is pointless, on par with "Novella 2000" or something like that. If you consider that pseudo-magazine authoritative, there's cause for concern...

Upon first listen, the album seems almost decent. The episodes that save the album are the ones where they stick to classic, blood-pumping, syncopated hard rock; when they instead attempt to venture into timid experimental paths, it becomes quite boring. The score is a poor 3. Anyway, at this point, even my grandfather does reunions... what the hell... Good review.

Thank goodness you’re here, being so open-minded. Just how open you are is clear from reading your comment on the review of "Entombed".

My words allude to nothing, they are crystal clear. If you can't understand what I'm saying, that's your problem. Reveal the secret? What secret? I've been here on debaser for over 2 years, so I have no mysteries. The beauty and the nerd? Sorry, but I leave certain nonsense to others.

And who ever said it's a problem or that it's not music? Reread my post better and don't make up things I never said. I talked about influences and artistic quality. I never mentioned the difficulty in playing instruments, nor that it doesn’t take talent to use software on PCs.

Thank you for informing me that Soul has been around before; I would have never guessed… joking aside, the musical part of Hip-Hop is in 99% of cases a recycling of extremely overused elements from genres that are already static like Funk, Soul, and R&B, with the classic sampled rhythmic base supporting everything. Then it can be embellished with synthesizers, sound effects, and even real instruments being played. But these remain embellishments that do not alter the essence of the music. What is truly fundamental in this area are the lyrics and the messages that one wants to convey.

To create a good foundation for a Rap-Hip-Hop track, the right experience and skills are necessary; no one is denying that. However, musically and artistically, that foundation will be absolute nothingness. But not because I say so; it’s precisely those who make Hip-Hop who say it. In Hip-Hop or Rap, music is of no importance, as what matters is the transmission of specific messages through the lyrics. In recent years, Hip-Hop has been contaminated by various elements from different genres (Soul, Pop, Dance, etc.), and often the classic rap recitation has been replaced or alternated with classic singing. What remains unchanged is the artistic value of the music (mind you, not the lyrics!), which is and will remain practically null.

But if the average of the scores you give to the songs is just above 3, how do you manage to reach a 5- in the final evaluation? A mystery...
