But who has talked about compositional innovation? For me, it doesn’t exist in either group. And here perhaps the discussion about Muse comes to a close. If you want to start a conversation about prog metal or Malmsteen (who for me has little or nothing to do with prog metal), I'm all for it, but I don’t think we would agree on anything, given that you generalize about the sound of Dt and Symphony X when often we should analyze individual albums, if not even individual tracks. And regarding Malmsteen, my judgments aren’t particularly positive, even though he’s undoubtedly a great guitarist, but comparing him to the two previous groups wouldn’t make sense either, and anyway, I prefer Petrucci, if that means anything.

That is to say: there are 1000 and more groups better than Muse, but also better than Symphony X.

"Since DaveJon listens to Symphony X as well, I wanted to make a comparison based on the unique parameter of 'compositional innovation.' -- By the way, I don’t often listen to Symphony X; I was referring to less recent bands."

mixed, it's pointless to ironyze about my modesty. My previous response genuinely stems from the fact that I've listened to many, many groups that are far more interesting, valid, and substantial than Muse, so why shouldn't I admit it? And anyway, just as I said I've listened little to Muse (and I won’t listen to more because I don’t like them) and that little I’ve heard gave me those sensations, you should admit that you've listened little to Symphony X if you see something of Dt in them and find them not very dynamic (!). Furthermore, a comparison between the two bands shouldn’t be made, because they are completely different genres, and because Symphony X plays prog-metal and is one of the fundamental bands of prog metal, while Muse, whether they want to play rock, pop, or hard rock, belong to genres where they have no real say. And even if, as you say, they blend Malmsteen and Dt, I’d be inclined to say: "for God's sake, call it junk!ā€ (and anyway, they are current bands that influence each other) while Muse are bland (from what I’ve heard) and will never influence anything concrete, besides copying not only passages from the rock of better times but I even find identical solos from Italian bands of the 70s. Whether my post is tangled but, more or less, it’s understandable, or that both will have compositional shortcomings, at least Symphony X compensates with technique, engagement, and stylistic choice, or that I haven't felt deep innovation in rock for decades and so it's pointless to strive to find it in the two bands we’re discussing. The form is convoluted because I’m doing other things, sorry.

I’ve always wanted to listen to it, but I never had the chance. Super review, as always, and OBVIOUSLY a 5.

Bah.. I only know this thing by name, but I'm curious to listen.. as long as it's reggae, I have nothing to say against it; what makes me sad are the rock or symphonic/orchestral reinterpretations of this work. Anyway, 90% of the reggae I've listened to has disappointed me, but the artists mentioned here don't seem too bad, for as little as I understand.. in a few days? months? years? I'll definitely give it a listen..
