@Jim: the majority of critics panned Obscured by Clouds, The Final Cut, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

But precisely mixed, it’s not based on compositional innovations that I judge the 2 groups in question, but on something else, I’ve already told you, that’s why I prefer Symphony X. What do you mean by ā€œit really means a lotā€? More irony?? For now, I’ll refer you to The Divine Wings of Tragedy, which I’ve also reviewed and which is the best by Symphony X in my opinion.

It's not true that critics ruin half of the career of my favorite band... the majority of critics dismiss 2 at most 3 albums.

An album doesn't have to present a deep innovation to be a masterpiece --> did I perhaps say the opposite? I was just responding to Mista, who first mentioned innovation, saying that it’s lacking in both Muse and Symphony X, but I certainly don't condemn them for it.

A matter of perspective, indeed: their style is what it is, whether you like it or not. They have the guts, but a bit less compositional skill. Many today lack ideas, and in any case, they have more than the muses.

I agree with Pibroch, especially Lucifer was needed!

"The skill of a composer is not measured by the number of pieces they include in a song" --> Symphony X are more musicians than composers, while the Muse seem neither one nor the other to me.
