AA.VV. Apocalypse Now (Soundtrack)

Most illustrious Poletti, I sincerely thank you for giving me this cinematic advice, as you are well qualified to do so in this field, and you have masterfully seized the opportunity. I admit my cinematic ignorance, despite having seen all the films of Master Kubrick, including the one you mentioned. Thank you once again.

Soft and fluffy, if you like odd times, I strongly recommend "The Damnation Game" by Symphony X. If you enjoy smooth concept albums, I suggest "Metropolis Pt. 2" by Dream Theater. If you're into atmospheres and, in general, the pursuit of "sonic perfection," I recommend anything by Porcupine Tree. What do you like???

With that sentence, I mean that the proposal of Symphony X (and some prog-metal bands) should be more appreciated than that of the self-made men. There is no doubt that they are different realities.

Of course, who could ever trivialize the V.U. posthumously? The two groups you mention went far beyond punk or new wave; they knew how to blend the influences of the era with great originality, and for them, even the darkness of the V.U. was just one component.

Romeo has been able to better and more effectively leverage Malmsteen's teachings; I'm not saying he's technically better, but he's definitely more concrete. In short, I won't touch Malmsteen and Satriani, don't worry, but Symphony X as a whole are much better.

In the V.U., "punk" was simply one of many elements, just as in the American garage bands, especially from the late '60s. In the following decade, this message was abnormally inflated, overshadowing the final result and diminishing the other components of the music that, in turn, became "side dishes." This is clear. Whether one likes it or not is a matter of taste.

@Lethe: If Allen's intent is to add more depth to the songs, he definitely succeeds. Romeo would certainly be capable of doing better, but that would take him out of the context and might come off as too "showy." Instead, his potentials are best expressed here within the prog-metal scope. The sentence you contest is meant as advice for those approaching the genre, and for those who might mistakenly consider Satriani or Malmsteen as the ultimate goal. The explosion of guitar heroes for their own sake leaves no trace; it is much more difficult and interesting to fit into a more complete context, which is what the concept of progressive aims to be. Obviously, the interweaving I mention tires you, not the critics or the listeners. The concert you mention, while excellent, has nothing to do with this discussion because we are talking about prog metal with specific influences, not about rehashing classical music. And they have certainly achieved the objective!
Pink Floyd A Momentary lapse of reason
Voto:
@Luca-Lj: so do you think the Pink Floyd never found their own identity? What’s wrong with "Summer'68"? Have you ever wondered what the meaning of "If" was? Perhaps "The Dark Side of the Moon" is no longer the paradigm of perfection? Maybe "Us and Them" didn’t invent a new way of conceiving music, understood as the space between the notes? Maybe you are just an employee coming back from the office? Perhaps The Wall has filler and clichés that make it inferior to the previous albums, despite having sublime moments like Young Lust or Comfortably Numb? Maybe you didn’t understand anything about Animals, especially the lyrics? Perhaps A Momentary Lapse of Reason, although inferior to the others, had nothing innovative and didn’t influence phenomenal bands like Porcupine Tree? Maybe you are simply a Watersian? Maybe?
