@ajeje: I never said that Symphony X are more original than the recent "noisy" bands. Originality today is a utopia; the vast majority of rock bands from the late '60s were original because there had been little to nothing in the rock realm before them. "Technique" and "aesthetic" in rock were born with progressive, when it became clear that every attempt at originality proved futile (the most glaring example is the end of the Beatles). Prog bands brought innovations, culture, and a new way of conceiving music (music for the mind). Punk emerged as a counterpoint to this cultured music and closed the prog era, focusing on technical simplicity, taking cues from garage bands, along with a message similar to that of the late '60s: no technique and no originality. The grunge of the late '80s was even worse, with bands that picked up that message again and tried to innovate by reclaiming the technique where it had been left off, but with decidedly inferior results. Progressive has managed to survive thanks to its alliance with the other innovation of the late '70s, metal, and it still stands as an example of cultured music, precisely thanks to bands like Symphony X. I wouldn't know what else to tell you.

Yes, before there were "clean" groups, less original than the "dirty" ones. I don't grasp the second question: which noisy groups are you referring to when you say they mimic 70s prog with more distortion and less taste?

I don't listen to husker du anymore, I just said that in their genre they dominate and there's an abyss between them and other bands, just as I said to wait for my response before adding new posts.

Because yesterday there was the possibility of being original, today instead it seems like a utopia, and the aesthetics of prog-metal perfectly contrast with the pseudo-originality of punk and grunge bands, stuffed with distorted social messages that are also not original but an imperfect copy of the unique and original revolutionary ideology of the late '60s, as well as technically inferior. And if there are bands that are technically superior, it all ties back to the discussion of empty commitment.

Believe me, it makes me want to cry… I don't understand and will never understand what’s wrong with showing your face to hundreds of millions of fans after 35 years… it breaks my heart, really.

You don't understand ajeje: TODAY the instrumental cleaning is the best, and I've specified that. There are not only those genres, in fact, if we go back to talking about Allen and Romeo, you would do me a huge favor.
