Moonchild, can you do one for me? I keep it fragrant, with dried plum...

Look, I'm not a drummer, but Brann Dailor uses some very high dynamics (and it couldn't be otherwise, given that Mastodon is very heavy and not jazz). He has an animalistic touch on the drums that I believe is truly enviable, an insane power in those hands and feet... sure, he has original and different rhythmic ideas, but we're far from fusion or jazz. If you want something that mixes these two ways of playing (and I'm not just talking about the drums), check out Focus by Cynic, Human by Death, or Aghorà: all three feature Sean Reinert, who is a true jazz-style drummer (but you probably already know him).

I am perplexed by those jazz and fusion genres... let’s not go searching for genres that don’t exist but that we wish to hear.

Well... to say that Blood Mountain is "one of the most beautiful heavy metal documents to come from human hands since the 90s" is still too early to say, who knows... it's undeniable that it is one of the most significant releases of this year! The album is truly insane, a blend of sounds and styles expertly mixed, played, and produced; it simply has to be listened to.

I completely agree with everything you've written; the review is smooth, enjoyable to read, and very accurate. The album is highly underrated, a hidden gem of metal avant-garde that is semi-forgotten, unfortunately. Besides Arcturus, Ulver, Borknagar, and the experimental crew, there were also them.

Nice review. Which album do you recommend I get first, Fuzzy or this one?

The Tool will also be in Florence and Turin. I'm going to the Florence date on November 13th. Oh my gosh, I think for me it will be an unbelievable concert, with two of the best bands in the global alternative scene on the same tour. Who else is going to Florence? Is there someone who wants to join?

Three is really too little for this album, so for leviathan we should give it a two, damn it! I can understand a four, four and a half, but three no.
