In fact, Justice, I said that consistency and repetitiveness are two very different things. It all depends on what one wants to do: from AC/DC we wouldn't expect anything more or less than the classic rock 'n' roll album... because that's what they've been doing for a lifetime and they've always done it at excellent levels. Angus Young gets up in the morning with the idea of making just damned rock 'n' roll: that's essentially their essence. Just as consistent are Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Opeth, etc.: all bands that have always made experimentation and progression their hallmark... their essence. Repetitiveness is absolutely different in my opinion: aside from the fact that it is a very subjective characteristic (but then again, we are talking about music, one of the most subjective things that exist), I believe that something fundamental can still be perceived; repetitive for me is someone who wants to come off as original AT ALL COSTS, resulting instead artificial and absolutely unnatural... constructed, in short... just like the latest Arch Enemy.

"Then there are repetitive things that can also be wonderful": in this case, we speak of coherence, which should not be confused with repetitiveness; in my opinion, bands like Motorhead, Obituary, and AC/DC are coherent, while the latest Arch Enemy and Symphony X are repetitive. "97% is a metaphorical number to indicate how saturated the current market is"...saturated with repetitive bands?

mmm....97% of metal bands are repetitive: is that a worldwide statistical figure? ah, and then we'd like to know who makes up the remaining 3% so we can burn all our records and listen only to the approved ones.

Look Emanuè, I agree with you on the analysis of Rise of the Tyrant: the album is quite boring, it's filled with trite and worn-out ideas from the previous two albums... from the Gossow era, I would save Wages of Sin (which is truly a great album) and a bit of Anthems Of Rebellion. Gossow, besides being a stunning babe, is anything but static; live, she creates quite a scene; that she’s flat (vocally, not for anything else ;)) is as clear as day.
