What I meant is that this film is the perfect and comprehensive synthesis of what war is and what it entails, from all points of view. I didn’t say that those made afterwards are terrible; The Thin Red Line is amazing, Spielberg's is a bit less so in my opinion. And Apocalypse Now is prior to Full Metal Jacket.
