I think there's been a stylistic step forward as well, although not all the tracks have completely convinced me (but the 3 minutes of Chinese Sleep Chant are among the most beautiful I've listened to this year). @LONDON: The idea that they couldn't convey emotions is entirely subjective; you should specify that.

The first CD I ever bought was the first Best Of by U2. I still have a strong attachment to that collection. However, I wonder, when you start out already doubtful about what you want to listen to, why spend more than 30 euros in vain? Not to mention if you're already biased against compilations. There are at least 2 great inventions that keep your wallet nice and heavy: Emule and Soulseek. There, with a little patience, you can even find the videos from the attached DVD. U2 didn't really need your money...
