Pixel, if you take a sound material that is already not difficult, like glam rock or hard rock from the seventies (in fact, Led Zeppelin had already achieved their big success, just to say), and you make it even more catchy like Queen did, you’re just making it more accessible and trivial. No, they were not easy to listen to. The darkest experimentation. But have you ever listened to anything else? I'm serious. Back then, there were people who were really experimenting. Have you ever heard Captain Beefheart? In 1969, Trout Mask Replica was released. That's experimentation. Queen is pop, nothing more. Whether you like them is another story, but "difficult" music is something entirely different.
