indelible memory: my cousin my cousin who on the Rome-Ostia train made me hear for the first time (from a portable CD player with headphones) 'stairway to heaven'; I would love to see the stunned face I made at the end of the piece...

@ Dan: it’s not that I want a sterile challenge over who’s right, it doesn’t matter... it’s just that beyond the trio and Elvis, there’s a ton of beautiful music that’s less trumpeted; I’m writing this because a few years ago I thought that beyond the few bands I listened to, there wasn’t much worth hearing, influenced by those who always mention the usual names: damn if I was wrong! I had a definite turning point back in the days of 'smells like...' by Nirvana, which indeed had this particular 'historical' merit (in the context of the history of popular music these years): to introduce many kids to the universe of underground music, small labels and the awareness that by digging you can find something extraordinary (even at the mainstream level and back in time).

jessica, if you say there are very few intelligent people, it means that there are some, and that someone gets offended (a/k/a pissed off) if you take it out on the entire site... I don’t know if I’m making myself understood...

ah... for Elvis, of course

Well, even the Beatles, Stones, and Zep drew inspiration from others; even Beethoven had his references, and the first ones to bang on some drums probably wanted to imitate, who knows, the sound of thunder... it’s obvious, influences are present for everyone, even for the triad.

some artists reviewed on de-baser that are not related to the Beatles, Stones, and Zep: Andrew WK, Alex Gopher & Demon, Ani DiFranco, Atomic Rooster, Arab Strap, Archive, Anatrofobia, Area, Animal Collective, Almamegretta, Asian Dub Foundation, Audio Bullys, Assalti Frontali, !!!, (Smog), 50 cent, 90 Day Men, Björk, Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man, Bent, Blues Explosion, Brian Eno, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Boards Of Canada, Basement Jaxx, Beastie Boys, Beck, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Big Steve, Bad Brains, Big Black, Broken Social Scene, cLOUDDEAD, Caparezza, Cocteau Twins, Cypress Hill, Charlemagne Palestine, Daft Punk, Dinosaur Jr., Deftones, Dead Can Dance, Devendra Banhart, Dirty Three, Devo, Einstürzende Neubauten, El Guapo, Erikah Badu, Fu Manchu, Fugazi, Faust, Fantômas, Fabrizio De André, Front 242, Girls Against Boys, Gus Gus, Giardini Di Mirò, Gavin Bryars, Ghost, okay, I’ll stop here because I have to get off... personal opinion! Dan, listen to some of them and see if you can find traces of the triad (not everything I like, if you care at worst I can recommend something, it’s almost all recent stuff... a few exceptions, like Bob Marley, to make the concept clear)

I repeat: I disagree with you on the issue of music all derived from the Beatles, Stones, and Zep, and even less dead... I challenge you - try listening to, for example (staying in the rock sphere), Oneida, and if you find anything from the three groups above (sorry for the colorful expression), I will cut off my balls... this is for rock, because if we're talking about electronic music, jazz, classical music, etc., etc., we're going even further away from the triad.

jessy, that's not fair: why are you taking it out on the entire site?

oh... you see guys, we can get along, right? well, I’m gonna be a pain in the ass one last time by recommending ‘Born to Run’ if you don’t have it, and maybe also a nice book: ‘31 Songs’ by Nick Hornby, where the author writes about some of his favorite tracks, including ‘Thunder Road’, the first track of the LP... it's also pretty fun to read.

Then, if someone were to get mad at me, I think I'm being constructive and not offensive; I might be wrong...
