Just Zion, when you notice that there always seems to be a tension that never explodes - and even when it does happen, I add (like in 'washer'), everything gets absorbed back into the 'flow'; this happened precisely during the grunge years, with the early pumpkins, the sonic youth of 'dirty', etc. when the sound explosion, cathartic and violent, was a constant in rock... the slint, on the other hand, sit in a corner and observe their 'spiderland' (I've always identified it a bit as a symbol of the many 'provinces' of the world): they draw out a sonic stream of consciousness (the voice often barely slurred is beautiful), which sketches a dark scenario, but not negative to my ears, mysterious but the result of a cynical observation not romantically self-satisfied. And, anyway, I end up twisting myself in words... the charm of this piece of plastic (no vinyl, sorry) is not easily communicable...

In fact, the label of being the 'fathers' of post-rock takes away from Slint the recognition they should enjoy as 'rock, plain and simple'... in short, aside from the notion that their influence was mostly 'attitudinal' (not adhering too much to patterns... after all, post-rock is a melting pot where everything gets thrown in), it's a disservice to them: to be precise, a lot of post-rock is terrible, and there’s not much good in it (obv. imho), theirs was above all a very personal and STRONG voice; 'spiderland' is a masterpiece regardless of any stylistic innovation.

...then you really have to be fascinated by the dark side of life if, as he did, you come to play at the Palamaggiò in Caserta...

I'm listening to it again now. I remembered it as too abstract... but when ever? It's truly fantastic stuff! What I particularly like about Miles Davis's jazz are his dark, brooding tones... well, I'm not a jazz aficionado, but it's a trademark of his, acoustic or electric, his sound is precisely like a boxer dancing on his toes in anticipation, while, let's say, what I've listened to from Ornette Coleman sounds like the same boxer throwing punches in a continuation...

Well, while listening I was definitely disappointed too (I consider the two of them geniuses); precisely because of the esteem I have for them, I can’t help but doubt that the version I heard (and obviously reviewed...) is the ‘real’ album; it’s a doubt-hope, because otherwise, yes, it’s a failure.
