mmm... I agree that the film often sucks, but that distinctly ultra-dilettantistic aura, with the 'actors' who (as is evident) often improvise and chuckle while performing, made it unforgettable in my memory, associated with a sort of 'affection', like what you might feel for some hilariously messy improvised play by friends... that said, paradoxically, I actually care less for the music of the Squallor, which, aside from masterpieces like 'o tiempo se ne va' (great quote and analysis), often drives me crazy with ideas (also possibly improvised) that aren't funny at all, for me... in short, I endured (they lent it to me in mp3...) almost the entire discography and decided to save in a folder only 5-6 tracks; to be maximalists (as trash generally is), it seemed to me a good synthesis of trash itself: digging through the sea of garbage, you can find some genius pieces-moments, but they are definitely few... (note: sometimes - this is the case for me with 'garbage' films - one can be fascinated also and/or rather by the context - e.g. Rome in the seventies -, in which one immerses oneself blissfully, ready to overlook all the flaws)

Eels Blinking Lights And Other Revelations

my thoughts: dunno... (great review frantz!) - I've always found Mr.E irritating, not for any particular reason, just, you know, a gut feeling... well, it probably has to do with the fact that he's often praised and yet, what I've heard has never excited me (the singles, you know...), plus I've never liked either the promotional photos or the videos... in short, regarding the Eels, as little as I know, I've never liked anything... this album seems at least worthy of a listen, but I'm afraid of forcing myself and ending up hurting more than helping, so I don't feel like listening to it. But great review though...

Well anonymous, let me understand: everyone speaks positively about a work of art = classic; someone speaks negatively about a work of art = classic, because they’ve considered it... and all those who, while consuming art, don’t consider it??? There will be many... I doubt, for example, that Burri (an ITALIAN painter from the twentieth century) had much to do with the works of Michelangelo... Kandinsky? Van Gogh? I don't know, one can talk about classic, as you say, only in somewhat maximalist terms...

Well... in a famous speech at a seminar in Rome, Frank Lloyd Wright had the opportunity to criticize Michelangelo's architectural work, indeed, defining him a 'non-architect', more or less, and in a somewhat derisive sense, denigrating his amateurism in conceiving the dome of St. Peter's, whose design was subsequently modified and adapted to make it actually stable...
