Giorrrrrgio, you say "a musician (when talking about the music they make) should not be judged by whether they are self-produced or not; they should be judged by the music they create"; well (besides a few reservations about the fact that in a context like today’s 'popular music', one could argue about how some artists use music merely as one of their communication fields, which makes them phenomena for which it is limiting to focus solely on the musical side - whether we’re talking about Madonna, Peter Gabriel, or the Residents...), what I care about is proposing a (perhaps) unique perspective on music... so, Marcel Duchamp, an artist who started from Dadaism, one day took a urinal, put it upright, and called it 'Fountain': it’s one of his most famous works... now, beyond the provocative-polemic intent regarding the state of art at the time, it was a gesture that highlighted a particular way of approaching art itself. A common object, placed in a different and 'modified' context (in this case, simply rotated), could take on unexpected plastic and communicative values; can we apply a similar approach to music? Why not... continues
