(mmm, there was a "however" missing in the penultimate sentence, anyway). Anyway, Bleak, I think you’re really good and this review is much more focused compared to a lot of nonsense said about r.e.m.; I vote again to make the average 4.5.

I like this album; I wanted to write a review focusing more on the lyrics, but I hadn't 'digested' them enough yet... one thing: I would have focused more on 'you', for me a stunning track, the only one where the monster seems to drop the mask and be less fake; let me explain: almost throughout the album, the main theme seems to be sex, often viewed - it seems to me - as a monster to confront, where facing it means pretending, disguising oneself; the sense of falseness permeates a large part of the album (the same sound creates a kind of fake hard rock); in the last piece, however, sex (if we want to see it that way...) seems to be tackled in a more direct and 'profound' way: no simply 'orgiastic' atmosphere or new-age harmony, but with a feverish and serious eye.
