Well, wait... an axiom is, like: a point has no dimension... axioms as such cannot be proven AND THAT'S IT, they are 'logical stakes'... find universally shared stakes? possible, provided we consult all living men, assuming we want to limit ourselves to them ;D in practice, impossible; in pragmatic terms, possible if we narrow the circle to a few eggheads, but sooner or later some dissenter will come out and cast everything into doubt... ah, relativism ;D

In short, if 'fixed scales of values' = absolute truths, there's nothing serious in this world... I could agree ;D

it's possible, it's possible, josi... you just need to agree on the boundaries and it becomes a sort of pseudo-science like art criticism... in fact... even in the scientific field, everything is based on axioms, that is, on unproven and unprovable statements that are taken as true, therefore, if we mean objectivity = absolute truth, according to what the hell, not even in the scientific field are serious discussions held; D

Great insight, John; beautiful review... I will never forget what Cobain's suicide meant to me (as for many in my generation), the malaise, perhaps more linked to my teenage years, objectified in a news item, the chills in realizing that the feeling I had felt and repressed when I first heard 'something in the way' at the end of 'nevermind' was a spot-on feeling; all of a sudden someone was telling us that life might not be enough, the king was naked...

In order to start a 'critical' discussion, I believe (often implicitly) we need to establish certain qualities to value, principles of discussion... if, for example, we consider the socio-media impact something important in light of a critical discussion, the statement 'Carlens is better than Robbie Williams' might not hold validity...

Well, once Frantz promised me to resume a serious discussion on art criticism, on which HE claims ;) to be knowledgeable (actually someone else said that...), but he hasn't gotten in touch with this mini-essay anymore...

I don't know... maybe it’s because I'm not a fan of live music, in the sense that, leaving aside the enjoyment of the social event, I found most of the concerts I've attended to be just simplifications of what I hear on the record; in a few cases, I’ve actually enjoyed the musical experience live. It might be that I often get bored standing around packed in (actually lately I tend to sit down, even on the ground like a dog, but that's how it is...); anyway, I found Dylan's live show in Rome, as I said, incredibly dull and repetitive and even the band seemed like a bunch of wannabes - on that occasion - unable to bring out a linguistically original interpretation or a particularly engaging performance (I reiterate, for me...)... since Dylan seems to really want to sing the same song over and over (it always took a good minute to figure out which song it was), I’ve often wondered why he doesn’t just recite them or, at best, accompany himself with just a guitar (or maybe just with a keyboard slung over his shoulder like Sandy Marton...), but on this matter the hypotheses could be quite varied, not necessarily tied to artistic choices...
